Range-Division Multiplexing for MIMO OFDM Joint Radar and Communications

An orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform enables simultaneous radar sensing and communications. In the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) case with several transmit (Tx) antennas, signals is usually implemented using equidistant subcarrier interleaving (ESI), thus allowing separation of in frequency domain. this work, a technique denoted as range-division (RDMult) analyzed, which allows separating radiated by different Tx antennas along range axis range-Doppler map. This work also investigates effects RDMult on communication task. It turns out that heavily distorts channel statistics introducing repetitive pattern deep fading holes, severely distort transmission data. To combat issue, proposes system especially designed for RDMult, including methods data estimation, estimation synchronization. Simulations confirm effectiveness these concepts terms bit error ratio (BER) performance.
